First of all, happy belated Canada Day to all my fellow compatriots. Yes, Canada sucks, but considering the effort to cancel our national holiday in recent years, the least you can do is go out and get drunk with friends. I certainly did. Then I wrote another of my ongoing series of extremely short update articles. Because programming is so slow and tedious you can sum up a few days work with just a few paragraphs.

In this case, I implemented the framework for the cutscenes. What I mean by that is, after the cutscenes are created, the game can now actually be played start to finish. This is in contrast to the former hack, where I put in the script directly into the game, and let the player read through them. The current videos are almost entirely random filler that I had on my computer for one reason or another, but they’ll quickly be replaced with videos featuring AI created voices, such as this one below.

It’s a straight shot from here to the first real beta. I need to crank out the scripts, turn them into videos, and implement all the scenarios (which is little more than inputting a few numbers into the program I wrote), and a complete, albeit extremely unpolished game awaits. After that it’s mostly about getting visuals and sounds into the game.
