I hate to link to the CBC, when it was the Western Standard, some alt-lite type publication that actually broke this story back in October, but they won’t let me see the article again after I refreshed the page so I have to use the CBC.

CBC:

Nine months after being diagnosed with a Stage 4 brain tumour and two days after his family says he tested positive for COVID-19, Nathanael Spitzer of Ponoka, Alta., died in hospital.

When Dr. Deena Hinshaw told Albertans earlier this week that the 14-year-old had died of COVID-19, the province’s chief medical officer of health triggered a wave of controversy over how coronavirus deaths are reported.

Hinshaw told a news conference on Tuesday that the boy had complex, pre-existing medical conditions that contributed to his death. Her comments renewed a debate surrounding Alberta’s practice of reporting on comorbidities.

The boy’s family publicly called on Hinshaw to retract her statement, suggesting that Nathanael had died of cancer, not COVID-19.

CBC doesn’t want to make it clear what’s going on, so let me do that. The province of Alberta passed a policy whereby everyone who died WITH Covid-19 was counted as someone who died OF Covid-19. Since about 1% of the population has the disease, they simply go around to people in the hospital who are dying of whatever, and mark them as dying of Covid-19. In this particular case it blew up in their face, since the family was so angry that their 14 year old sons death was being falsely labeled a Covid-19 death.

No, nine months after being diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. You can leave out the totally irrelevant part about him having Covid-19.

Hinshaw announced the province will no longer report COVID-19 deaths of children until a review process has been completed to confirm the actual cause of death.

It’s nice to know that there was no process before to determine the actual cause of death. Nice to know that they were just like “fuck it, looks kind of like Covid, let’s write that down.”

Notice that they’re only doing this with children though? That’s because it’s a huge PR disaster when they erroneously write the death of a child as from Covid-19. But ultimately they can use adults for the overall death statistics, so it’s a much safer gay-op.
