This past May, Weinstein pledged $100,000 to Planned Parenthood. He raised $1.6 million for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign and $600,000 for President Obama’s 2012 campaign.
Even Weinstein’s now-defunct employment contract with The Weinstein Company upholds Hugh Hefner-style playboy values. It spelled out that, if sued for sexual harassment or any other “misconduct,” as long as Weinstein paid any settlements or judgments against him — plus a fine — the company would take no action.
That mostly-feminist celebrity crowd laughed nervously.
Part of the grotesqueness of Weinstein’s alleged conduct is the way it contrasted with at least parts of his public image, as a man who championed older actresses like Meryl Streep and Judi Dench, joined a Women’s March, donated to Democratic candidates, raised money for Planned Parenthood and publicly venerated Gloria Steinem.

Why would the normalization of men not having to commit to women “empower” women, when using feminine wiles to entrap a man into marriage has traditionally been the route to an easy life? I can’t help but feel like the ds and trs stance on women is very similar and that this conflict merely masks the underlying conflict which started between weev and Cantwell. Nonetheless, the woman problem is complicated and deserves attention. I’ve personally seen the awkwardness that arises when men attempt to put their traditional values into practice. With previous generations it was natural but it’s more difficult now to not have self-consciousness mess things up. There is an inherent hierarchy: god (the divine or ideal), man, woman, child. But that in no way implies that women should be mistreated. But, there are certain truths are difficult to accept and one of those is that the authority that a man has over his wife is justified by his obedience to the truth (god, divine, etc) and that a woman will never really love a man in the way that a man loves a woman, that is pure solipsism. In the culture at large, men have turned away from the divine ideals that once inspired us, and so women no longer have a duty to respect men. Men must rule over women, but their authority must flow naturally from their own commitment to goodness and not be something that is insisted upon or enforced which is what we see in the case of weak men whose return to tradition takes the form of a petty tyranny characterized by insecurity and fear.
