I spent today travelling for a family occasion. I strongly considered saying no, but considering that my school board election stunt is stillborn, and I never had any actual plans on winning, I didn’t have a good enough excuse to get out of this. If that makes it sounds like I’m not enjoying my retreat, just the opposite is true. I’m very much enjoying myself here, I’m just disappointed that I’ll have a lower output over this weekend.
Normally when I travel I take my computer with me. For practical reasons this was not an option this time, and I type this very piece out on a tablet. That has a number of productivity downsides that I don’t need to bore you with, and will strangle my output until I get back, at least in terms of normal articles. Any content that requires lots of pictures is essentially unworkable, and the workflow of not having a second monitor really makes things a pain for my normal political content that usually requires referencing another article. And of course, I don’t even have any PDFs on this device that people have given me, so it’s near impossible for me to finish publishing other people’s work, such as A. Nonymous’ excellent series on the CAF.
However, not all types of content are equally affected. Parody and original creative writing content can be written just as easily as on my PC, so prepare to see a lot of that over the weekend. And as a weekend retreat, I’m looking forward to it from a creative standpoint. A long time fan and eventually personal friend of mine suggested that I try my hand at creative writing, and creating fictional works that have our politics is certainly a niche that Hollywood has no interest in serving. And you know what, I think he’s right. So prepare yourself for a lot of 6/10 fan-fiction quality work over the weekend. After that it will be business as usual.
