The federal government has announced a new round of sanctions on Russia and is promising further economic penalties if the Kremlin fails to halt what Prime Minister Justin Trudeau described as a “further invasion” of Ukraine.
If you’re seeing it, it’s for you. The purpose of this bloviation isn’t to actually do anything to Russia. The purpose is to convince the people who are still stupid and obedient enough to read the CBC that Canada is a serious player on the world stage, and is thus in a position to harm Russia.
Trudeau also announced the deployment of up to 460 Canadian Armed Forces members, a frigate and maritime patrol aircraft to NATO member Latvia.
Russia’s invading Ukraine. Quick, send in the troops to Latvia. But not too many, maybe like 460 or so. Again, as if the Canadian Military has any sort of real war fighting contribution to make, as opposed to this signally bullshit.
Earlier on Tuesday, the United States, United Kingdom and Germany announced sanctions targeting Russian banks and called off the planned opening of a natural gas pipeline connecting Russia to Germany.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has suspended the certification process for the Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipeline in response to Putin’s decree.
The suspension is particularly significant because experts estimate it could cost the Russian economy as much as $3 billion US per year.
How retarded do they think we are? $3 billion per year. Oooooh I’ll bet those Ruskies are really gonna have to tighten their belts over this. Let me go look up Russian GDP real quick.

- Russia gdp for 2017 was $1,574.20B, a 23.29% increase from 2016.
Russian GDP is around $1.5 trillion. $3 billion is therefore precisely 2% of their GDP. Except it isn’t even $3 billion, it’s “up to” $3 billion, which means not actually $3 billion. And as I detailed yesterday, stopping Russia from shipping out oil affects Russia far less than it does all the EU countries who need the oil. Russia can just stockpile the oil, and the military isn’t affected in the slightest.
“The behaviour we’re trying to sanction is is already happening,” he said. “Putin got [as many as] 200,000 troops, you know. Now he’s he’s just rolled over other border, so I think our point has been, from the beginning, there is an invasion and all the heavy sanctions should be rolled out soon and early.”
Russia has 200,000 troops? Quick, let’s send 460 guys… to Latvia. That’ll show ’em.
